The Heldenhain monument, inaugurated in November 1925, stands at the southern end of Georg-Herwegh-Strasse. It is situated in the Eichenhain, created in 1808 and named after Hindenburg in 1917. In 1921 the town administration decided to erect a monument to the citizen of Eberswalde killed in the First World War, and commissioned the Berlin sculptor Hans Dammann (1867–1942) with the design. The monument, situated in a slightly elevated forest clearing, with an approximately 150-metre-long path from the road, comprises a circular construction open on the top and resting on eight pillars that bear a truss decorated with two commemorative inscriptions. In the centre there is a pedestal adorned with boar’s heads and garlands with a sacrificial bowl. On the inside of the pillars there were 24 bronze tablets with the names of 826 fallen soldiers, but these fell victim to the "donation of metal" to the war effort in 1942. The monument gradually fell into disrepair after 1945, but was restored from 2008 to 2013 on the initiative of the Verein für Heimatkunde (Association for Local History).
