Length: 30 kilometres (6-7 hours)

Start: Wensickendorf

Finish: Melchow

Logo/route sign: blue spot against a white background

How to get there: Take the RE5 (Rostock) from Berlin central station to Oranienburg. From here, take bus no. 805 to Wensickendorf (about 1 hour).

Return journey: From Melchow, take the RB18367 to Eberswalde. Continue from here by taking the RE3 to Berlin central station (about 45 minutes).

Route: Wensickendorf, Wandlitz, Ützdorf, Lanke, Biesenthal, Melchow

Route description: The hike also takes you through four towns: Wandlitz, a traditional and popular destination for a day out, Lanke with its old castle in the castle grounds, the former health resort of Biesenthal and Melchow with its Bahnhof nature park. There is so much to discover. Make sure you explore all the different parts of Wandlitz: the old village with the BARNIM PANORAMA and the ambience around the railway station with park, which are under monument protection, and the popular Lake Wandlitzsee lido. From Wandlitzsee station, you can enjoy several different short tours and walks. The neighbouring village of Lanke is also part of the old settlements. The overgrown park by the former Lanke castle is particularly charming, and there is a nice bathing area on Lake Obersee. Enjoy the beautiful scenery around Biesenthal from the observation tower on the old castle grounds or take a dip in Lake Wukensee before you finish your hike in Melchow.
