The original brick wall spanned the entire town until it was almost completely removed in 1821. As in many other towns in central Europe, for a long time the slowly deteriorating walls had no longer fulfilled their defensive function, and stood in the way of the town’s expansion. The only remains of the wall still visible today can be viewed on Nagelstrasse where the streets meets Schweizerstrasse.
