This museum with a medieval jail is part of Bernau’s fortifications. It was built at the end of the 13th or the start of the 14th century, and today is a landmark of the town. Since 1882 the Steintor has housed a department of the local history museum, exhibiting collections of weapons as well as evidence of old handicraft and traditional customs. Since 1994 it has been possible to climb the tower to the medieval jail.
