Kupferhammer Lock is one of twelve listed locks along the Finow Canal, which overcomes a height difference of 36 metres over a distance of 30 kilometres. The first lock by the same name was built at the height of the former Kupferhammer mill when the Finow Canal was being built in 1620. The current lock, which was newly built, was completed in 1987. Portage via the landing stages on the north bank is possible.
