The town of Bernau bei Berlin has lots of sights to offer its guests, from the Middle Ages to modern times. These include the St.-Marien-Kirche church and the town walls, which have been almost entirely preserved. The Steintor museum includes collections of weapons, evidence of old craftsmanship and traditional customs, while the Henkerhaus museum exhibits the executioner’s tools. The building complex, built in the late 1920s as the Federal School of the ADGB (General German Trade Union Federation), is a testimony to the famous Bauhaus architecture of Hannes Meyer and Hans Wittwer and today is one of the most significant modern building ensembles in Europe. The Barnim Nature Park and the Barnimer Feldmark Regional Park are perfect for bicycle tours and hikes right outside the town.
