How to get there:
  • Public transport: regional train (RE, RB) or S-Bhan to Königs Wusterhausen
  • Car: From Berlin via the A113, A10 and B179 to Königs Wusterhausen

Return journey:

  • Public transport: From Motzen, take the bus to Königs Wusterhausen. From here, take the RE regional express train to Berlin central station (about 1 hour).
  • Car: From Motzen, take the bus to Königs Wusterhausen to return to your car (about 30 minutes)

Route description/points of interest, background information:

The starting point for this tour is the town jetty in Königs Wusterhausen. From the lock on the Nottekanal in Königs Wusterhausen, the Nottekanal runs through meadows and fields where dense lines of trees and hedges grow close to the bank. The canal was opened in 1850 and was used to haul the barges laden with building materials to and from Berlin. After the locks, paddle boats can turn off southwards into the Galluner Canal towards Motzen. Lake Motzener See is a small, shallow, crystal-clear lake surrounded by forests offering water sports activities and bathing areas. Because of its shallow depth, the lake is a popular spot for surfers.

On-shore outings:

  • Mittenwalde: old Salt Market, historic buildings, St. Moritz church, local history museum (jetty at entrance to town)
  • Motzen: Golf course, “Haus des Gastes” (tourist information & local history museum), St. Martins Church, milestone, village green

nautical information: The lock on the Notte Canal in Königs Wusterhausen is out of service for an indefinite period. At low water levels, the Notte Canal has a fairway depth of one meter in places. In summer, the Notte Canal is very weedy in places. You can pass through both locks in Mittenwalde in summer without prior notice! The Gallun Canal only has a fairway depth of 0.9 meters at low water levels. The Gallun Canal and Lake Motzen are closed to motorboats.
