In the Middle Ages, the “Buttersteig” was a trade route on which farmers from the southern countryside brought their goods to the markets in Königs Wusterhausen. At that time, the population was low. Accordingly, vegetables and other goods fit into a rucksack or cart and butter into a small barrel. The name “Buttersteig” was born.

The origin of this path has survived the centuries. Parts of this path, such as between Senzig and Gussow, are almost as original as they were in earlier times. This section through the heath landscape attracts many hikers. The trail connects the centre of Königs Wusterhausen with the dairy in Münchehofe.
