Endless forests and a rendezvous with a Dahme Beyond Groß Köris, the path winds deep into the vast forests of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. About halfway along the route, you come across the listed Hammer Forest House complex. It has been in the possession of the Hohenzollern family since the 18th century, and until 1913 the Prussian kings and emperors would frequently come here to hunt. Today, the meticulously restored forester’s lodge is a special place in the heart of the forest. In summer, the forest cinema attracts visitors, whilst during Advent, the traditional forest Christmas celebration exudes its very own magic. Beyond the forester’s lodge, the River Dahme reveals itself at its most beautiful. The river runs alongside the footpath for several kilometres. The water meanders leisurely through tranquil forests and vast meadows. The unspoilt riverbank is completely uninhabited and offers wonderful views time and again of a landscape that has retained its unspoilt character.

At the end of this stage, the forest opens out and Brandenburg’s smallest town welcomes walkers with its approximately 6-metre-high cascade weir.

Length (duration): 15 kilometres (about 4 hours)

Route sign: Signets and hiking signs of the Paul-Gerhardt path

Route: 

The route starts along town pavements with a hard surface and once you have passed through Groß Köris you continue along an 800-metre cycle path. The route then takes you through extensive woodland with excellent natural paths, which are quiet and away from road traffic.

Trail conditions:

60% natural paths, 20% partially paved and another 20% of the paths have a hard surface.

Points of interest along the route:

Nature: Woodland, Waldweisen an der Dahme, the Dahme river and gardens at the edge of Klein Köris.

Culture: Hammer forester’s lodge

How to get there by public transport:

Start: From Groß Köris RB (regional train network) station to Königs Wusterhausen, Lübben and Berlin.

Finish: From Märkisch Buchholz there is a bus to Königs Wusterhausen.

All locations are within the VBB regional tariff zone.

How to get there by car:

There is parking at the start and finish, but there is no direct transport link between start and finish.
