The information board at the town lock commemorates the life story of Emma Pufahl, an original of the town of Königs Wusterhausen. She guided boats through the town lock for 30 years. At first, she only took over the work of her deceased husband. As an unskilled labourer, she earned too little for her hard work, as the heavy lock gates still had to be opened with muscle power using a hand crank. So, at an advanced age, she went back to school and became a skilled worker in hydraulic engineering in 1977 at the age of 65. An audio walk offers personal insights into her life. People who knew her personally also have their say. The audio walk can be found on the website of the ‘FrauenOrte Land Brandenburg’ project.
