The paintball venue in the old sewage treatment plant in Doberlug covers an area of 1.1 hectares and is very diverse with ditches, bunkers, wooden castles, barricades, camouflage nets, observation towers and a helicopter made of wood. Two teams run through the area with markers – these are air-powered weapons from which the coloured paintballs are fired – and try to find and “catch” the enemies. The paintballs are filled with a mixture of gelatin and cornstarch, which is dyed with food colouring.

Up to 40 people can play at the venue at the same time. Masks are supplied that have to be worn on the battlefield for the safety of the paintball players. Other equipment, such as neck protection, pots (small containers to top up the paintballs) and breastplates can be loaned on site. It’s not easy to spot the players amidst the greenery because of their camouflage suits. Anyone who has been marked with a paintball must retire from the game. The winner is the team who seizes the enemy’s flag.
