To the south of Rothstein, in the Elbe-Elster-Land, stands the only natural and even climbable rock face in the state of Brandenburg. From the parking area for the rock stage, which is still not visible, you reach the approximately 15-metre high rock after a short walk slightly uphill. The geological natural monument Rothsteiner Felsen only exists three times in this composition: in Yellostone National Park in the USA, in New Zealand and on Iceland. It originated around 560 million years ago and is therefore older than the Harz, the Thuringian Forest (around 250 million years) or the Alps.

With vertical and overhanging walls, this rock, which consists of solid, partly polished greywacke sandstone, offers around 30 climbing routes ranging from difficulty levels 1 to 8, and 7 bouldering walls ranging from levels 4 to 8. They provide plenty of opportunities for climbing even at lower levels of difficulty. All routes are secured with drill hooks or there are sufficient natural securing options.
