The bicycle tour starts in the town of Uebigau-Wahrenbrück. The town with its 21 town districts provides a wealth of places to stop off and explore. Uebigau Palace is a must-see. The former main building of the estate has been converted into a palace-like building and was given its present appearance in 1904. The town has been running it as a youth hostel since 1992. Be sure to make a short detour to visit the historic town centre as well. The half-timbered house at Doberluger Strasse 8 dates from the first half of the 18th century and today houses the local history museum and also has a replica reconstruction of a Bronze Age village in the former garden.

The tour continues to “Schweinert”, which is about four kilometres away. Its hill grave field points to the Bronze Age settlements in this area. The grave field covers an area of 30 hectares and some 650 burial mounds are visible. This is therefore one of the most important soil monuments of its kind within the German-speaking region.

The tour continues to the Kiebitz recreational area near Falkenberg. Be sure to have your swimgear with you on warmer days. The110-hectare area includes 70 hectares of lake and a bathing area extending over a kilometre. A large slide and a maze provide plenty of added fun for the whole family.

Water pleasure of a completely different kind awaits you in the “Kleiner Spreewald” Forest in Wahrenbrück. This is considered to be one of the true gems of the region with an air of Spreewald Forest romance.

The tour continues via Rothstein to Domsdorf. You gain an impression of the changes that have occurred in the region during the industrialisation age. The former briquette factory is an impressive sight in itself, but also a piece of engineering history that can still be experienced. After all, the “Louise” factory was steam-powered for 109 years until 1991 and is the oldest briquette factory in Europe.

The continue continues via Beutersitz along the riverbank of the Schwarze Elster river back to Uebigau-Wahrenbrück, leaving you with a wealth of impressions about the four thousand-year long history of the region.
