The Heide-Moor Tour takes cyclists through the main area of the Lower Lusatian Heath Nature Park. The large, contiguous, centuries-old sessile oak forests in the “Forsthaus Prösa” nature reserve are the largest in Germany covering an area of 600 hectares. Wide open spaces also extend over the Heide-Moor Tour area. It was used by the military for 30 years up until 1988, which has left silver grass meadows and heathlands in this area. The tour also passes through the “Der Loben” nature reserve, one of the last large, virtually untouched moors in southern Brandenburg. The adjacent Lobenmoor nature reserve to the east of the Lower Lusatian Heath Nature Park is a “child of the Ice Age”. This Ice Age left larger and smaller stretches of standing water as it retreated north. The sedimentation then led to the formation of peat moss, which set the stage for the emergence of the moor.
