All the churches in the Herzberg parish lie on the “Mitteldeutsche Kirchenstrasse” (Central German Church Road) Route 13. They are part of a system of cycle paths, which extends from the Dübener Heath to Mühlberg and Jessen. The Mitteldeutsche Kirchenstrasse Cycle Path Route 13 takes cyclists past a number of different historic churches in Herzberg.

All the churches have interesting histories. The church in Frauenhorst, for instance, is the only village church in the Herzberg parish to have survived the Thirty Years’ War and the structure of which is made of rare bog iron ore. 

Anyone particularly interested in diverse ecclesiastical architecture should be sure to explore some of the other Kirchenstrasse cycle paths in the Elbe-Elster-Land. Nine different tours include the most diverse church buildings. For more information visit www.kirchenstrasse-elbe-elster.de
