The Biebach Pottery that has been passed on from generation to generation, is the only one of Hohenleipisch’s 24 potteries that still exists today. Documents held by the Chamber of Crafts in Cottbus prove that Adolf Biebach who was born in 1874, founded a pottery in Hohenleipisch in 1903. The business survived two world wars, the socialist era and the dive into the bitter cold waters of the open market economy. Hohenleipisch was undoubtedly an important centre of the pottery trade. In addition to the 24 potteries, the village was home to 16 brickyards. The village even used to have its own pottery trade guild that was established 210 years ago. The oldest written record of a potter in Hohenleipisch dates from 1505. Master potter Andreas Biebach and his wife Nicole Biebach, who is a ceramics painter, are working at the Biebach Pottery to this day.
