Bad Erna is a stone’s throw from Doberlug-Kirchhain and was considered a popular lido in the Lower Lusatian region at the time. Even as far back as the end of the 1920s, bathing was very popular in the former Erna lignite quarry. The dachas arrived in the 1960s and the destination for a day out became more and more popular. It is an especially lovely place when peace and quiet descends on the bathing area as evening dawns. The setting sun casts its golden light on the calm lake: time to chill out and unwind. Close by is a landscape conservation area with the ‘hammer’ ponds, idyllic spots for anglers and nature lovers alike.

There is a great children’s playground directly on the lakeside, which all children love to play in.

The Waldschänke Bad Erna restaurant serves hot food every day – as well as ice cream in the beer garden on warmer days. Changing rooms and public toilets also allow for a relaxing day out by the lake.

The ponds of the Bad Erna local recreation area are the remains of a former lignite mine. The mine was given the name Erna in 1912, after the mine owner’s wife. Bathing began around 1930 at the quarry filled with water. The name Bad Erna was coined by locals for this area.
