The flour dust flies in the air, the motor rattles and the sieve clatters in the Paltrock-style windmill in Schönewalde - the machinery is set in motion on a guided tour by the Master miller Erich Weber Junior. Flour is no longer ground here, but the intact technical equipment means that it could be at any time.

The mill is located to the east of the village. You can see the large blades as you approach from a distance. The small wind wheel is able to turn the mill in the right direction by itself.

You will definitely have a few stories to tell if you are lucky enough to meet the miller and see the mill blades spinning: for example, how weavers baked their own bread with home-milled flour until 1973, why the milling industry went downhill, why the mill was handed over to the community, and what it was like in the 1950s when young Erich went to nursery school. He was just meant to go over and say goodbye to his father at the mill. But he stayed there, played and helped his father. The nursery school never saw him.

Bread and cakes are still baked in the wood-fired oven, which is still working. The traditional Mill Festival takes place on Pentecostal Monday.

Please book your visit or guided tour of the mill in advance!
