The lake Bergheider See south of Finsterwalde near Lichterfeld in the Elbe-Elster-Land is a body of water that is being created to the north-east of the Lower Lusatian heath landscape. The lake is named after the village Bergheide that had to give way to the former surface mining site Klettwitz-Nord.

Bathers can enter the water via a shallow shore area that is 500 metres long and 200 metres wide. Bathing is permitted at your own risk. There are no life guards on site.

Since 2002, the northern shore has been home to the visitor mine around the former conveyor bridge F60. At 502 metres long, it is the world’s biggest mobile mining machine. It has been converted to enable visitors to safely climb to the highest point that is 78 metres above the ground. From here you can see across the entire water surface of Bergheider See.
