The Heidehöhe Hill (201.4 metres above sea level) is located in the Gröden mountain region, right on the border with Saxony and are the highest topographical elevation in Brandenburg. The Heideberg circular trail was created in 2005 to make them more attractive to tourists (length: eight kilometres, mostly asphalt tracks). The crowning glory of the trail is an impressive larch wood observation tower, erected in 2009, which rises above the pine forest to a height of 34 metres.

Anyone who climbs the 162 wooden steps up to the observation platform (at an altitude of 29 metres) is rewarded with a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view: the mountains of the Upper Lusatian region, the Elbe Sandstone Highlands, the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig or the Königstein Fortress in Saxon Switzerland far away in the distance.

700 metres from the Heideberg Tower is the Gröden winter sports arena on the Eichberg Hill (with ski lift, ski hut and a tobogganing slope with a safe end).

Tower facts and figures:
  • Floor area: 20 square metres
  • Total height: 34 metres
