The Lubwart Tower is one of the oldest towers in the state of Brandenburg. The tower is the only remaining structural part of the former Liebenwerda Castle. Visitors who wish to explore the Lubwart Tower in Bad Liebenwerda on their own can use an audio guide. The key is available at the Central German Marionette Theatre Museum located next to the tower, allowing visitors to discover the historic structure independently, floor by floor. The Lubwart Tower can be climbed during the museum’s opening hours.

The Lubwart Tower is the keep of the former castle of the Dukes of Saxony in Liebenwerda. After the last duke of the House of Ascania died in 1422, the castle on the banks of the Black Elster River passed to the House of Wettin, who established the administrative seat of the Liebenwerda district here. In 1519, Martin Luther met the papal envoy Karl von Miltitz at the castle.
