The Lubwartturm observation tower is the keep of the former castle of the dukes of Saxony in Liebenwerda. When the last duke of the Ascanian dynasty died in 1422, the castle, located on the Schwarze Elster River, became property of the Wettin dynasty, who established the administration of the Liebenwerda office here. Martin Luther met the papal envoy Karl von Miltitz at the castle in 1519.

The Lubwartturm tower is a listed monument and is one of the oldest towers in the state of Brandenburg. The Lubwartturm tower is the only remaining building of the former Schloss Liebenwerda castle.

If visitors want to climb the 122 steps to explore the 31.5-metre high Lubwartturm tower on their own, they can now take an audio tour. Visitors can pick up the key at the Mitteldeutsches Marionettentheatermuseum, the Central German puppet theatre museum at the tower, and explore each floor by themselves.

Please note: The museum is completely redesigning its permanent exhibition in 2019, which will lead to restricted visitor numbers. Due to the ongoing renovation work on the interior and the subsequent installation of the exhibition, the museum will be closed to visitors from February 4, 2019 to May 2020. Tower tours are therefore only possible at the following times:

Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

From April to September until 6 p.m.

as well as:

Easter

Labour Day

Ascension Day

Whitsun

or when booked in advance.
