The extensive palace complex, situated right in the heart of the town, is divided into the front and rear palace. The three-storey tower with its gateway connects both parts of the palace. The rear section of the palace with its arcades references the Renaissance, around the same time as its builders from the aristocratic family of the Noble Lords von Dieskau.

Today the castle serves as the seat of the city administration and cannot be visited from the inside. Unfortunately, climbing the castle tower is currently not possible.

Special feature of the castle: Division of the former robber baron’s castle into a front and rear palace

Defining period of architecture: Renaissance (1572)

Condition of the palace: currently being refurbished

Area of the palace: 3,500 square metres
