Doberlug was a secondary residence and hunting lodge of the Saxon Duchy of Saxe-Merseburg in the 17th and 18th century and then in Saxon hands until 1815. Today’s visitors are surprised by an extraordinary architectural ensemble with the Cistercian monastery church, refectory and large castle complex. Doberlug represents a memorial site for the passage of many parts of Saxony to the Kingdom of Prussia. This is why the castle complex, with its first restored areas, was an exhibition venue and at the same time the centrepiece of the first Brandenburg state exhibition “Prussia and Saxony. Scenes of a Neighbourhood” in 2014.
