The destination of this bicycle tour enjoys a curious distinction: it is the centre of the former GDR. Located near Weitzgrund, this is a popular destination within Hoher Fläming Nature Park. There is even a midpoint book at the refuge in which you can record your visit for prosperity. The next destination is Verlorenwasser, with the stream of the same name. From here you can take a detour into Werbiger Heide nature reserve: note that the forest path can be extremely sandy in places, depending on the season. Via Werbig, the tour passes along a beautiful tree-lined avenue to Schmerwitz. The pottery and farm shop are worth a visit, and the farm restaurant is the perfect place for a break. From Schmerwitz, the route leads to Hagelberg, where Napoleon’s troops were successfully routed in 1813. At the highest summit cross in Brandenburg, you can sign the summit book and enjoy the view. The tour then returns to Bad Belzig via Klein Glien and Borne.
