The “Flämingradweg” (Fläming Cycle Path) serves as the connection from the R1 long-distance cycle route in Bad Belzig through the west section of the Fläming/Saxony-Anhalt Nature Park to the Elberadweg (Elbe Cycle Path). In Garitz, the path divides and cyclist are spoilt for choice: continue on in the direction of Zerbst/Anhalt to Walternienburg or to Dessau-Roßlau, where the Bauhaus movement was born. Along the path between Bad Belzig and Dessau, you can experience the whole Hohe Fläming landscape up close, from Roßlauer Vorfläming to the Elbe floodplains in Dessau. The Fläming Cycle Path runs almost entirely along existing roads and country laneways.

Dessau - Bad Belzig 60 kilometres

Duration

pure ride time four hours, with breaks and visits 9 hours

Start/Finish

Dessau central station - Bad Belzig

Logo/Route sign

"FR Flämingradweg" in yellow on a brown background

How to get there

Take the RE7 from Berlin Mitte to Bad Belzig or Dessau; hop on or off in Wiesenburg/Mark or Medewitz; from/to Zerbst/Anhalt by regional train from Magdeburg or Leipzig

Course/Sights
Bad Belzig - Garitz stage (41 kilometres): Coming from the R1, you can turn off onto the Fläming Cycle Path in Bad Belzig or Bergholz. The route travels via Borne or Hagelberg to Klein Glien and then continues on via Schmerwitz and Schlamau in the direction of Wiesenburg. Wiesenburg Castle and the romantic cobblestone church is just one example of many castles and palaces in Fläming. The route continues along the road to Medewitzerhütten and then on to Medewitz. Nature lovers can stop off here in the Flämingbuchen nature reserve or look for boulders - just the right thing for enthusiastic hikers. After crossing the federal state border, you turn right along the calibration road for the State of Saxony-Anhalt. Bicycles are permitted here. Geodetic measuring instruments are tested and calibrated along the 1,850 metre stretch because the integrated electronics become inaccurate due to ageing and normal wear and tear. After about two kilometres, you turn right in the direction of Reuden. Reuden is particularly well known to motor sport fans and also has restaurants, overnight accommodation and an agricultural museum.

Garitz - Dessau-Roßlau stage (19 kilometres): Idyllic villages, tree-lined avenues and the dark loneliness of the forest accompany you from Garitz to Meinsdorf and the Europa-Dorf. Through the railway tunnel and along the gently babbling Rossel past the old moated castle to Roßlau. After passing through Roßlau, you cross the Rivers Mulde and the Elbe with wonderful, panoramic views along the flood bridges of the river floodplains of these two large waterways. The Fläming Cycle Path ends between the two parts of the double town of Dessau-Roßlau, where the Elbe Cycle Path and the R1 pass under the B184.

Possible combinations

There is a connection to the R1 long-distance cycle route in Bad Belzig. Connection to the Elberadweg (Elbe Cycle Path) in Walternienburg and Dessau-Roßlau.
