The church of St. John in Grimme is a large Romanesque fieldstone church, consisting of a western crossbar tower, the nave, indented choir and semicircular apse. Extensive changes took place between 1705 and 1720, the windows were enlarged and the interior was completely redesigned. Unusual for the region are frescoes from the Baroque period in the apse, which were uncovered during restoration work in 1933-36. They depict evangelists and the Last Judgment, with God looking down admonishingly above the altar. The windows in the choir show Luther and Melanchthon.

As part of the project "Lichtungen - contemporary stained glass in Anhalt churches", remarkable ensembles of contemporary stained glass are being created in mostly medieval village churches in the area of the Evangelical Regional Church of Anhalt. In 2018, three precious leaded glass windows by the artist Hubert Spierling were inserted into the apse of the church in Grimme. Here, opal and opaque white glasses are ingeniously set with transparent and gray genuine antique glasses in an abstract drawing of different lead thicknesses. Color has been dispensed with. This creates a calm effect that does not distract the eye from the surrounding frescoes and altar, but filters the light. They are in harmony with the Romanesque architecture and the Baroque furnishings and give the room a contemplative atmosphere.

St. John's Church in Grimme is open around the clock as part of the work of the "Determined Churches" Foundation.
