The first parish church in Baruth was consecrated in 1346 and later converted into a hall church. After two town fires in the middle ages, the church was rebuilt each time. The current structure of Kirche St. Sebastian church dates from 1685. To mark the 300th anniversary of the lordship of the patronage family of Solms (1896), they donated a fund to build new towers and replace the church windows. The building of the two towers was completed in 1909. They match the cobblestone and brick architecture of the nave of the church.

The raftered ceiling and window in the Neo-Renaissance style are prominent in the high, bright interior of the church. The seating at St. Sebastian clearly illustrates the hierarchical social order of previous centuries in Baruth. You can see from the many different forms of seating and how they are arranged exactly where the patrons, town councillors and farmers sat.

The church can be visited during the opening hours of the parish office (at the rectory). Guided tours can be arranged with historian Katharina Schicke (telephone +49 33704-67644), further information at www.kirchengemeinde-baruth.de
