Kloster Zinna is about four kilometres north east of Jüterbog. The church, a Cistercian building begun in the 12th century (consecrated in 1226), is one of the most famous churches in Fläming. It is considered to be the best preserved granite basilica in North Germany. It is a pillar basilica with a transept and principal choir, connected by a polygonal apse. The unique quality of the almost seamless hewn stone in the east part of the building is remarkable. The south wall of the transept is very heterogeneous with high-quality stonework only in the upper parts. The gables are graduated, following the individual rows of stonework.

The interior of the church has been kept very simple. Only parts of the former furnishings have been retained. The Gothic majuscules in the floor - the “AVE MARIA...” are simple and uniquely preserved in Germany. A mural from 1722, “King Davis with Harp” was revealed in 2017 behind the organ gallery.

The interior of Klosterkirche St. Marien monastery church was restored in 2012 as “cultural heritage of national significance”. It was the first interior renovation since 1897. The comprehensive restoration work have been completes and the church has shone with both an old and a new glow since 2017. The church is usually open daily from Easter to Reformation Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can register for a guided tour of the monastery church with Ms Rosenzweig at the parish office. Duration of the guided tours: about 35 minutes. There is not entry or tour fee; a small donation is asked for at the exit.
