The Liebfrauenkirche church was built in 1161 on behalf of Magdeburg Archbishop Wichmann von Seeburg and was consecrated in 1174 on the day when Jüterbog was conferred the rights of a town. It is the second oldest preserved church in the state of Brandenburg.

The brick building has been redesigned numerous times over the course of time, which is why the several styles of building can be seen.

The altarpiece in the choir of the church bears paintings from 1710. The sandstone chancel with figurative reliefs is an outstanding work of the Renaissance made by Torgau sculptor Georg Schröter in 1575. The organ was built in 1737 by Joachim Wagner from Berlin.
