The village church in Löwenbruch, now a town district of Ludwigsfelde, came into being in 1716 as a plastered brick building. The wooden bell tower is probably older still, and was part of a dilapidated previous building. In 1719, the client behind the present church, Achatz von Alvesleben, also donated a magnificent pulpit altar. An inscription on the back of the altar wall refers to this donation. The fields of the pulpit include reliefs of the four gospels and a preacher referring to the teachings of Martin Luther – a common representation at the time.

Something that deserves special attention in the St. Anna-Kirche, though, is one of the oldest preserved wooden figures in the region, from the second half of the thirteenth century: A bishop being enthroned. Following its restoration, the figure can now be viewed with a sculpture of a pope, around 100 years younger, in a glass cabinet on the inner southern side of the church nave.

Visitors can ask for the key to the church at the inn ‘Zum Löwen’, telephone: +49 3378 202880, alternatively at the rectory, Alt Löwenbruch 24, telephone: +49 3378 510171.
