The Church of St Mary is situated in the east of the town. Construction of the church probably began around 1220. St Mary’s Church is a late-Romantic cruciform pillared basilica church in the bound system. The square west tower and the sacristy added to the northern arm of the transept date back to around 1500. The construction, under Cistercian influence, is the earliest example of the use of brick and vault engineering in town parish churches. A remarkable feature of this church is the installation of an organ by Joachim Wagner, the region’s own "Gottfried Silbermann", in 1740/42.

The Church of St Mary, a fieldstone cruciform basilica church, is the only parish church still to be standing from the time it was built. The Joachim Wagner organ, the Baroque altar piece and the pulpit are remarkable features worth seeing in the interior.

Luther’s linden tree stands in front of the church, under which Luther is said to have preached in Treuenbrietzen. On the north side there is a memorial stone to Martin Chemnitz (born in Treuenbrietzen in 1522), who played a major role in the Reformation and was Ecclesiastical Superintendent for the Duchy of Braunschweig.
