The first church at the current location in Dahme (Mark) is documented as having been consecrated in 1181. One small remainder of the first church can still be seen in the foundation walls of today’s Stadtkirche St. Marien church. The church as it now appears to visitors is a structure that was built after the big town fire in 1666 and completed in 1701 in the Baroque style. However, an important episode in church history was written at this location almost two hundred years prior to that: The important reformer Georg Buchholzer was born in Dahme (Mark) in 1503. He studied in Wittenberg and was part of Martin Luther’s inner circle. When the church was last renovated in 2014, the church window to the left of the pulpit was in part newly installed and a portrait of Buchholzer was added.
