The church Stadtkirche St. Marien is the oldest building in the town of Wittenberg and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The pulpit where the reformer Martin Luther himself once preached has been maintained to this day, though it is currently on loan to the Luther House. Luther’s companion, Johannes Bugenhagen, also presented his Reformation ideas in this church. The Reformation altar was designed by Lucas Cranach the Elder, and valuable panel paintings by Cranach, the elaborately decorated baptismal font by Hermann Vischer, and the splendid organ can also be seen.

The church can be explored with a tour at 2 p.m. every day

(Price: Euro 4, reduced Euro 1.50). A worship services takes place on Sundays at 10 a.m., and there is a short midday prayer service from Monday to Friday at 12 p.m. The church is open daily until 4 p.m., and in the season from Easter to October until 6 p.m.
