The Mellenseer Teiche ponds have been used as fishing waters for a long time. Its public use has since been stopped, but the ponds are still used to farm fry and edible fish in order to maintain the ponds as a cultural landscape. There are special opening hours at Christmas and on New Year’s Eve to sell traditional Christmas and New Year carp.
