The Mühle Steinmeyer mill in Luckenwalde is a modern take on a traditional business, founded in 1932 on the site of a former post mill. Principally it is rye – the local cereal of choice – that is refined into flour and grist here. The mill products, in particular flours, grist and other natural foods and bread mixes, can be purchased at the farm shop. In 2014 the mill and one of its bread mixes received the Brandenburg Prize for Innovation in the Food Industry.

A selection of the products can be viewed online via the farm shop portal for those unable to stop by and take a look. Alternatively, Ms Steinmeyer is also happy to take orders (starting from Euro 5, plus delivery costs) by email and will then send these by post. For quantities over 20 kilograms, please enquire regarding delivery costs.

History

Marie and Georg Steinmeyer, the parents of current owner Winfried Steinmeyer, purchased the mill in 1932, and Winfried Steinmeyer learnt milling from the ground up in his parent’s business. The family has now been practising the traditional milling craft at this location for 80 years. The mill has been modernised on several occasions since then.

Since October 2013, master miller Katrin Steinmeyer has been in charge of the mill. She will also be happy to provide tours of the mill on request, where the functioning of the mill and the milling trade are explained at length.

Production today

Today the mill principally processes rye from the local region. This is processed into flours and special grist for the baking industry and for home use. The production business is expanded by selling natural food products. The selection of products, which can also be purchased in the farm shop, ranges from various spelt products including spelt biscuits, muesli, pasta and soups, as well as bread mixtures with rye and spelt, all the way to baking ingredients such as yeast, leaven and bread spices.
