The former sanatorium for lung diseases in Beelitz-Heilstätten lay in a deep sleep. Now, part of the enormous historic site in Fläming has been opened up to visitors – with a treetop path at a height of 23 metres. The result is an open air museum that is unique throughout Europe which can be viewed from a bird’s eye perspective. Film makers have also become aware of this impressive setting south of Potsdam. In 2013, scenes from the film “Frau Ella” starring Matthias Schweighöfer, Ruth Maria Kubitschek and August Diehl were shot there. The tragicomical road movie is about a Berlin taxi driver called Sascha, who meets 87-year-old Ella after a traffic accident and kidnaps her from the hospital to take her to France to relive her youth there.
