The Kornhaus is a popular day trip destination right on the Elbe. The striking glass conservatory is almost circular and is the symbol of the building. The unique location on the Elbdamm provides a spectacular view of the Elbe lowlands. The Kornhaus is one of Dessau’s Bauhaus buildings and was designed in 1929/30 by Carl Fieger on behalf of the city of Dessau and the Schultheiss-Patzenhofer brewery. In 2012, the Kornhaus was fully restored as faithfully as possible to its original condition. The Kornhaus is home to a restaurant, a hall, the Carl Fieger Stube, the Elbe terrace and the Elbe garden. German dishes, a wide range of vegetarian dishes, selected Mediterranean cuisine and delicious tarts and cakes are on the menu. The primary focus in on regionality.

The Kornhaus gets its name from a corn storehouse that was built on the same spot at the beginning of the 18th century. When the corn trade in Anhalt came to a standstill in the mid-19th century, the remaining buildings were used for a bar and restaurant. The location soon became a popular destination for a day out. The building built since then in the Swiss country house style was no longer suitable for requirements and so the building that still stands there today was built in 1930.

The Kornhaus is accessible.
