The former small farming town of Beelitz and its districts now has a population of 12,544 and attracts more and more tourists every year with its restored historic town centre - outside of the asparagus season too. A guided tour is recommended if you want to get to know the history, the state and the people up close. Twice a week, Isolde Komm leads an entertaining short tour (maximum two hours) or a longer tour (three hours) through Beelitz. The tour passes the old brewery, the parish church, Deutsches Haus, the town hall and the Alte Posthalterei posting station. The school in the listed brick building on the way into the historic town centre is quite impressive. The tour then continues on to the old “Mus-Bude” (now a branch of Struik Food), the old power plant and the former district court (now a police station). It also stops off at the old water mill at the town entrance, which is to become home to a small mill museum and the town library in time for the State Horticultural Show 2022. At the water mill, Isolde Komm particularly enjoys telling the story of the attack by Jan Kuck. In the 15th century, he attacked the town with his band of mercenaries via the drawbridge that was in place back then. The massacre is one of the darkest chapters in the history of the town. “I really would not like to have lived in medieval times”, says the town guide Isolde Komm grinning.

Guided tours take place every Wednesday and Saturday from 10 a.m. The meeting point is the tourist information centre at Poststrasse 15. Tours outside these times by arrangement.
