Aside from the many scenic attractions, the Fläming Heath region offers a large number of cultural historical highlights. As an eternal borderland and focal point of historic events, the Fläming Heath region comprises a surprisingly high amount of prestigious castles.  Over the centuries, the castles served different purposes, were destroyed and rebuilt. The several preserved castles are stony witnesses of a solid cordon of fortresses of the early medieval period and represent history that can be relived. The 147-kilometre hiking trail ""Burgenwanderweg"", which cuts right through the middle of the Hoher Fläming Nature Park, has been certified as quality hiking trail. It connects the four castles of the region: Burg Eisenhardt in Bad Belzig, Burg Rabenstein in Raben, Schloss Wiesenburg and the bishop residence in Ziesar. Hikers will be crossing vast, secluded forests, maze-like, branched out dry valleys, passing giant erratic boulders and reach beautiful Fläming villages with romantic field stone churches and get to know traditional crafts from the region.
