Its unique feature can be seen from the design of the mill alone. The barn windmill does not have a typical wind wheel with 4 blades – instead the wind wheels are permanently installed in the mill building itself. The mill building is a half-timbered building and the mill engineering forms a single entity with the building, giving the mill its unique mode of operation. When closed, the half-timbered building resembles a simple barn, hence its name.
