Not far from the village of Klein Glien is what was once Groß Glien (which begs the question, why is Glien called Klein Glien). Thanks to the artwork “Weltentür im Hohen Fläming + Urkirche Wald - eine Meditation” by Sebastian David, attention has now been drawn to the sunken village and its memory has been kept alive.

Built as a sheep farm and outlying estate for arable farming and livestock, the population reached its peak in 1858 at 42. In 1931, the outlying estate was torn down. Today, the large poles of cobblestones and the remains of foundations are reminders of the former residential and commercial buildings. In the church ruins, an artwork called "Urkirche Wald" invites meditation. A magical place - readings, concerts and theatre rehearsals are held here.

On the meadow that was once Groß Glien, there is now a rest area with an information point that tells of the life and demise of Groß Glien. The E11 European long-distance hiking trail, the art hiking trail and the nature park circular hiking trail 73 all pass Groß Glien.
