Erich Mendelsohn’s famous hat factory is an excellent example of expressionist industrial architecture. Mendelsohn, who himself considered the hat factory in Luckenwalde to be one of his best designs, became famous thanks to his innovative design and modern architectural building style using reinforced concrete. This site saw the building of four production halls, a boiler and turbine building and two connected gate buildings up until 1923. Probably the most distinctive building was the dye works hall with its shaft-shaping roof hood resembling a hat.

The building itself can only be visited from the inside during special events and guided tours. From the outside, the building ensemble can be seen from the street.
