Kummersdorf testing facility is divided into two areas, the museum and the open air site. The museum has a permanent exhibition with information on the development of the army testing facility from 1875 to the present day. Initially used as an artillery shooting range, the army testing facility was then used by the German armed forces up until 1945 as a development and testing centre for new weapons systems. Two rocket engines were also developed here. A uranium project was worked on - unsuccessfully - in Kummersdorf from 1939. Since 2007, the entire site has been a protected monument.

Different sections of the museum are dedicated to the individual eras in the history of the facility. The period from 1875 to 1918 shows how the army testing facility began and the impact of the Versailles Treaty from 1919 to 1932. This is followed by the National Socialist era from 1933 to 1945 and then continues into the period of Soviet occupation from 1946 to 1994 an on into the present day. Selected exhibits give an impression of the respective key areas of use of the army testing facility.

The friends’ association gives guided tours of some areas of the site along secured pathways subject to reservation. The guided tour schedule is available on the website at www.museum-kummersdorf.de.

Due to the ordinance load, visitors are not permitted to enter the site on their own.
