The Luisium refers to a castle located east of the center of Dessau and the surrounding landscape park. It is a part of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom. At the center of the complex is the neoclassical palace, which Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau had built as a gift for his wife Louise between 1774 and 1778. The outwardly simple building houses a banqueting hall, a mirror cabinet, a library and other smaller cabinets. All rooms on the ground and second floors are decorated with reliefs and classicist wall and ceiling paintings. The smaller rooms and cabinets on the upper floor look serene and elegant with their fine stucco decorations and wall paintings.

The park is designed in the style of an English landscape garden. It is characterized by the wide visual axes. The Snake House in neo-Gothic style served as a tea house and is today one of the special vacation homes in the Garden Kingdom. Today, the orangery serves as a restaurant. The interweaving of the useful with the pleasant is visible in the garden. Until well into the 19th century, one part was used for strolling and pleasure and the other was used by the court gardener for fruit and vegetable cultivation. From the western rampart you can see the buildings of the former "Stuterey", where the horse breeding of Prince Franz was carried out.

The park is freely accessible. The castle can be visited as part of the Garden Kingdom.
