The castle tower of Wiesenburg with its cone-shaped top is a landmark that cannot be missed. The tower is part of a castle complex that emerged from a medieval castle dating back to the 12th century. After a fire, the castle was rebuilt as a Renaissance building from 1550 onwards. In the years between 1864 and 1880, the castle was given its present neo-Renaissance style. Today, only the keep of the medieval castle has been preserved in the entrance area of the castle. In the local history parlour in the keep visitors can find out all about Wiesenburg and the history of the castle. The portal frames dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries and the Männeken Gate, named after the figure astride it, are very well preserved. The courtyard houses a fountain dating from 1609. A wide terrace leads to the large landscaped park grounds.

The castle grounds, a land conservation area, with their remarkable tree stock, terraced beds, ponds and adjacent forest, are probably the most important garden between Sanssouci and Wörlitz. Rhododendrons in bloom are a particular attraction of the gardens.

Wiesenburg Castle is now in private hands. The gate house is home to the town’s Tourist Information Centre with a museum and the possibility of climbing to the top of the tower. Information material is also available in the Town Hall (Monday to Friday) or in the library next door (Tuesday/Thursday), and accommodation information is available in the display on the Goetheplatz square.

If you are arriving by car, please also use the parking lot at the primary school "Am Schlosspark". From there you have direct access to the park and you can reach the castle from the back.
