The fairytale park is located in the middle of Blankensee. It is the perfect place to take a leisurely stroll and unwind. The special feature of the 3.5-hectare complex is that it is one of the few historicist gardens in Brandenburg that has survived the test of time. Begun by Christian Wilhelm von Thümen, a Baroque garden was laid out here in the 18th century. With the advent of landscape gardening, the face of the complex changed to a landscape park. The general garden director of the royal Prussian gardens, Peter Joseph Lenné, was hired in 1832 to design it. A great figure who worked for the noble von Thümen family.

In 1902, the writer Herrmann Sudermann bought the estate and redesigned the park into a historicist garden. Enchanted by what he found, he left the Lenné landscape garden as it was, combined it with Baroque design features, and decorated it with staffage buildings and art objects. For this purpose, Sudermann acquired busts, vases and sculptures on his travels in Italy and southern Germany, among other things, which can still be admired in the park today. The castle park with this horticultural concept remained after the writer's death in 1928 - and delights visitors with its playful sculptures, romantic paths and enchanted atmosphere.

To better understand the history of the castle park, its buildings and garden styles, the Blankensee Farmers' Museum invites you to the free guided tour "In the Footsteps of Sudermann and Lenné" on the last Sunday of every month (from April to October at 2 pm).
Notes for the visit: Please stay on the paths and do not walk on the lawns and flower beds. Photographs are permitted for private use only. Permission is required for all other and commercial photography and filming, as well as for the operation of drones. Arrangements for this with the operators of the castle.
