The power of the king in the 18th century to interfere with the matters of local communities and undertake structural changes can be seen in Frederik II’s “Promotion of town development” in Treuenbrietzen (1775-1785). There were mainly changes to local citizens’ houses, the modification or rebuilding of which was undertaken by the king to guarantee accommodation of soldiers in the town. These structural changes under Frederik II can still be traced today in the largely closed townscape of Treuenbrietzen. The history of the town can be traced back today in the Treuenbrietzen Local History Museum.
