Kleinmachnow Lock is toe most important and most distinctive structure on Teltow Canal. As the only lock on the canal, it has the task of overcoming the height difference of 2.70 metres between the Rivers Spree and Havel. The foundation stone of the lock was laid in 1901 and in 1906 it was ceremonially opened by Emperor William II.

Today, Machnow Lock, as it is often called, is a protected monument and a popular destination for a day out. In the colonnade of the former footbridge, display cases provide information on the past, present and future of the lock construction, which is symbolic of Kleinmachnow. Since the lockkeeper’s hut on the dock was renovated in 2008, the lock is again open to visitors.

The lock consists of three chambers: The north, middle and south chambers. The south chamber is not in operation. The authority responsible is the Waterway and Shipping Office in Berlin, in the suburb of Neukölln. The waiting areas for sports boats are at kilometre 8.17 to 8.19 and kilometre 8.66 to 8.69.
