The fifth stage of the Havel Cycle Path covers from Brandenburg an der Havel to Rathenow. To the west of Brandenburg, the route takes a wide sweep around Lake Breitlingsee before following the Havel in a northerly direction. Passing through the beautiful lowland landscape, you reach your destination in Rathenow along the meandering River Havel via Pritzerbe and Milow.

How to get there: Take the RE1 regional express train from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) to Brandenburg/Havel (approximately 1 hour).

Return journey: From Rathenow, take the RE4 regional express train to Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof) (approximately 1 hour).

Route: Brandenburg/Havel, Plaue, Briest, Tieckow, Havelsee, Bahnitz, Jerchel, Milow, Bützer, Böhne, Rathenow

Sights:
  • Brandenburg/Havel: Historic town centre, St. Katharinenkirche church, St. Gotthardtkirche church, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, Archäologisches Landesmuseum (archaeological museum), Industriemuseum, Waldmöpse (bronze figures about 50 centimeters tall at various locations)
  • Krugpark Nature Conservation Centre
  • Plaue: Parish church, palace park, fishery exhibition
  • Havelsee: Stadtpfarrkirche church, Erlebnishof (adventure farm)
  • Bahnitz: Village church
  • Milow: Half-timbered church, Apothekergarten
  • Rathenow: Bismarck Tower, Optik-Park
