Start/finish: Brandenburg a.d. Havel

Logo/route sign: Stork against a blue, white and red background

Directions:
  • Train: Take the R1 (Magdeburg) from Berlin Zoologischer Garten to Brandenburg a.d. Havel (approximately 45 minutes).
  • Car: From Berlin via the A10, A2 and B102 to Brandenburg a.d. Havel (approximately 1 hour).

Route: Brandenburg a.d. Havel, Klein Kreutz, Mötzow, Ketzür, Butzow, Radewege, Brandenburg a.d. Havel

Route description

The tour starts in the centre of the town at Neustädtischer Markt and quickly takes cyclists to Mötzow, where the cathedral chapter is the perfect place to stop for a break and admire the art.

Shortly afterwards the landscape is dominated by Lake Beetzsee: this elongated Havel lake offers ideal conditions for storks in particular – hence the tour's name. But there are not only numerous stork nests to be discovered: the lively chirping of birds indicates that many other species are also very much at home here. Beavers usually hide during the day, but at least there are bite marks to prove how common they are.

After Bollmannsruh, it is worth taking a side trip from the tour itself – not only because of the beautiful natural setting. This is where the story of Fritze Bollmann took place: according to a popular song, he once had a great time fishing in Lake Beetzsee.
